Pictures from my recent PhD
graduation :-)
Wondering what I do with my spare time???
Motorcycles
My husband Shane taught me to ride before we were married. I started on an old
Yamaha Exciter. Since it became somewhat unreliable in 2001, I got a new
dual-purpose bike (also a Yamaha). We call him T.W. He is my baby! Shane has a
big Suzuki 850GSL. No picture of that one.
Cross-stitch
Here are just a few of the many items I've cross-stitched.

for a page with all the pictures (high-speed internet recommended).
- Wizard
- A sorcerer with metallic threads and charms. I am currently putting the
finishing touches on a coordinating sorceress. This one is quite large,
around 17"x20" framed. Hi-res
version.
- Pocket
Cat - This cat was done on the pocket of a jeans shirt for my mom.
About 3" square.
- Cat
Wedding - This was done for a friend from high school as a wedding
gift. About 6" square.
- Apache
Wedding Blessing - For another high school friend's wedding. About
15" square.
- Rose
Wedding - This one was for my brother Matt and sister-in-law Lori for
their wedding. About 11"x17".
- Precious
Moments Wedding - For a college roommate on her wedding. About 7"
square.
- Dreamsicle
Baby - Done for the birth of Kajsa Hallberg (child of longtime Nelson
family friends). About 4"x6". I would not do one of these again,
as it was quite intensive!
- Megan Announcement - For my
adorable niece Megan's arrival, a wall
hanging and coordinating quilt.
Pictures of Megan available throughout the Nelson
Family Picture Pages.
- Graduation
- For a high school friend's college graduation (school colors were red
and yellow). About 4"x6". I have done a few of these in other
colors...
- Light
Switch - Done for my younger sister's bathroom when she still lived at
home. The bathroom had a seashell theme.
- Macaws
- For my mother-in-law who raises birds and had a blue and gold macaw at
the time. About 8"x15".
- Cat Towels 1 and 2
- Also for my mother-in-law.
- Christmas
Towel - Christmas gift for my mother one year. (sorry this picture is
a bit large)
- Music - The kit was given to
me by a high-school friend. No picture yet.
Crochet
During the past year, my sister Elizabeth and I have been
teaching ourselves to crochet. I've made a scarf and a rug. More pictures hopefully coming soon. Elizabeth
also made a scarf and is currently working on a large afghan. We also taught
our mom, and she has produced a scarf or two and a matching hat.
Stained Glass
My mom Judy took a class on stained glass a couple of years ago. It has since
become a family pastime. MANY pictures are available on the Nelson
Family Picture Pages. I have produced a few items myself, no pictures
yet...
- A bird that looks somewhat
like our pet cockatiel.
- Business card holders.
- A butterfly
- An Easter egg
- A jewelry box
Quilting
My mom and I have also recently discovered quilting. A few more pictures are
available on the Nelson Family Picture Pages.
Shane's Projects
My husband Shane loves to do video editing and graphic design type work on his
Mac (which I graciously allow to live in the same room as my PC). The picture
above was something quick and fun done for my mom. Originally she had her 3
kids with her in the picture... Another example is the restoration work
he did on my grandmother's baptism certificate. Here's a before and after.
As you can see, the original had been chewed to bits by mice, with some chunks
completely missing! We have also done some "video memories" using old
photographs for events such as weddings. Maybe soon we will have some examples
here.
